MEERUT: The MP/MLA court of Bulandshahr sentenced ex-MLA Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit to a jail term of two years and five months for violation of Covid guidelines along with a fine of Rs 25,500.
Special public prosecutor Hitendra Verma said, “On May 11, 2020, Pandit had assembled a crowd outside his house to offer food in Bulandshahr. A notice was subsequently issued to him by police for violating guidelines but he shared the notice on his Facebook account while hiding the facts and alleged police harassment.”
“A case was registered against him under IPC sections 188, 420 and UP Public Health and Epidemic Diseases Control Act,” Verma added.
The court of MP/MLA judge Vinay Kumar Singh found him guilty of other charges also and sentenced him to jail.
The court order stated: “Parents were losing their children and children their parents. In such a serious situation, human life was ending due to infection. It is difficult to estimate how many people lost their lives due to this irresponsible act of the accused.”
