‘Kejriwal being tortured inside jail at behest of govt of India, PM Modi’: AAP leader Sanjay Singh | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday alleged that the Delhi chief minister is deprived of his basic rights guaranteed under the constitution and claimed he is being “tortured inside the jail” at the directions of the government of India and PM Modi.
“Inside the jail, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is being tortured at the behest of the Government of India and PM Modi,” AAP leader said while addressing a press conference in Delhi.
The recently released AAP leader also accused that actions were taken to “break his (Kejriwal) morale”.
Alleging “inhuman behavior,” Sanjay Singh said that Arvind Kejriwal was deprived of his basic right to meet his wife and visitors face to face.
“As per the rule and as mentioned in the jail manual, the jail administration has been granted the right to let the people in jail meet the visitors face-to-face. In the case of Arvind Kejriwal, his wife is not allowed to meet him face-to-face,” he said.
“This inhuman act has been done just to humiliate and discourage the CM. I am saying with full responsibility that even the dreaded criminals are allowed to meet in the barrack, but a three-time CM of Delhi is allowed to meet his wife through a window having a glass in between,” Singh alleged.
Dubbing it a ‘fight to save democracy and the Constitution,’ the AAP leaders said, “I would request PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah not to take away the rights of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, which are guaranteed constitutionally, democratically, legally and under the prison rules. Don’t try to be a dictator.”
Earlier, Delhi minister Atishi on Friday alleged that a big political conspiracy is being hatched by the BJP-led central government to impose President’s Rule in the national capital.
“Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest is a political conspiracy to topple his government. We have learnt from reliable sources that in the coming days, the President’s Rule will be imposed in Delhi. But imposing President’s Rule in Delhi will be illegal and against the mandate of people,” said Atishi.
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody is set to end on April 15, after which he will be presented in court.
The Delhi high court on Tuesday upheld the legality of Kejriwal’s arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in the Excise Case and said the repeated non-compliance of summons for over six months by Arvind Kejriwal was a contributing factor in his arrest.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the ED concerning the excise policy case.
The trial court on April 1, sent Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15, 2024.
ED alleged that the AAP is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged liquor scam.
