‘What does he mean?’: Priyanka Gandhi responds to PM Modi’s ‘no one must be scared’ remark | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks “no one must be scared” and questioned why leaders of his party were talking about changing the Constitution when BJP returned to power with over 400 seats.
“Did anyone ask him why are leaders of BJP saying that they will change Constitution? Why are only BJP leaders talking about changing Constitution? Where did this conversation start?” Priyanka remarked when asked about PM Modi‘s remarks during an interview with news agency ANI.
“When I say that I have big plans, no one must be scared. I don’t take decision to scare or runover anyone, I take decisions for the wholesome development of the nation. For the development of the people, the aspirations of our youth. I don’t want to delay those things,” PM Modi had said in the interview on Monday.
“What does he mean when he says no one should be scared? When they change Constitution, what will happen to reservations? When they change Constitution what will happen to the rights that people enjoy at present? … what will happen to the power of vote that small farmers enjoy at present?” the Congress general secretary asked.
“The Prime Minister should answer these questions … it is not enough to say don’t be scared,” she said and added “We are anyways not scared.”
The Congress general secretary has also alleged that the ruling party will “change” the Constitution if it returns to power for the third term and the common people will suffer the most after their rights are curtailed.
Priyanka Gandhi also accused the Prime Minister and BJP leaders of trying to deviate from the real issues facing the people during election campaigning.
“PM Modi and BJP leaders are not talking about issues of unemployment, inflation, farmers or women that concern the comman man,” she alleged.
Priyanka had earlier said that talks about amendment in the Constitution is being raised by the BJP because they want to snatch the people’s rights.
The Congress has maintained that upcoming Lok Sabha election is about the future of India and to safeguard the constitutional values that have been in existence in the country. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that BJP wants to destroy Constitution while the opposition’s INDIA bloc is protecting it. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has claimed that if BJP comes into power again no more elections will be held in the country.
The opposition’s charges against BJP over tinkering with Constitution was triggered by the remarks of former Union Minister and BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde who had said that his party needs a total of 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls if any changes are to be made to the Constitution.
Hegde had called for re-writing of the Constitution stating that Congress earlier made changes to the Constitution to oppress the Hindu society and to undo that “act” that his party needs a two-thirds majority in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as well as in states.
However, the BJP was quick to distance itself from the Karnataka leader’s remarks. The party also did not give him ticket to contest the upcoming elections.
