JAMMU: Three ready-to-use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were seized from a suspected terrorist hideout in the border district of J&K’s Poonch early Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Anantnag-Rajouri segment on May 7, officials said.
“Around 6am, a search operation based on a specific input was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) of J&K Police (Mendhar) along with police component Gursai, CRPF’s 246Bn and Army’s locally-based RR unit in Passan wali, Sanai Gali in Gursai and adjoining areas in Mendhar sub-division,” said an official.
“During the searches, a suspected terrorist hideout was busted and two tiffin IEDs (each weighing 3kg), one steel can IED, a bundle of electric wire, batteries, medicine and clothes were recovered,” the official said.
The bomb disposal squad was subsequently called in, which destroyed all IEDs in a controlled explosion, the official said, adding that intensive searches were launched in the area.
