Israeli missiles hit site in Iran, explosions heard at airport – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Israeli missiles struck a location in Iran late on Thursday, following Iran’s drone attack on Israel in retaliation for an assault on the Iranian embassy in Syria, according to ABC News, citing a US official.
‘Loud sound’ was heard in the Isfahan province as multiple flights over the Iranian airspace were diverted amid tensions with Israel, Iranian state TV reported.
Isfahan province is home to several Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Natanz uranium enrichment center.
Iran launched a retaliatory strike over the weekend, deploying hundreds of drones and missiles after a suspected Israeli attack on its embassy compound in Syria. Most of the drones and missiles were intercepted before reaching Israeli territory.
On Thursday, Iran urged the United Nations security council to compel Israel to cease further military actions against its interests, while the UN secretary-general cautioned that the middle east was facing a “moment of maximum peril.”
Israel had announced its intention to retaliate against Iran’s missile and drone attack on April 13.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza began after the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, resulting in 1,200 deaths, according to Israeli estimates. The Israeli military offensive has claimed the lives of over 33,000 Palestinians in Gaza, as reported by the local health ministry.
Groups supported by Iran have declared their support for Palestinians, launching attacks from Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq.
