Govt teacher held with hand grenades in Poonch; terror hideout busted in Rajouri | India News – Times of India



JAMMU: In two successful counter-terrorism operations in J&K on Sunday, police arrested a govt teacher and recovered arms and ammunition from his house in Poonch, and busted a terrorist hideout in Rajouri’s Thanamandi.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army, police, and special operation group raided the house of Qamar-ud-Din, the headmaster, in Poonch’s Hari Budha area, police said.”A Pakistan-made pistol and 2 Chinese grenades were recovered,” police said.
The weapons were intended to disrupt Lok Sabha polls in Poonch, police added.
It marks the third case of a govt teacher’s arrest over alleged terror activities since Feb 2023.
On Nov 15 last year, a govt teacher was arrested from Bahram Gala in Poonch’s Surankote tehsil during an overnight operation.
Before that, a govt teacher-turned Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was arrested for allegedly carrying out multiple blasts, including the one in a bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims on Feb 2, 2023. “Arif also confessed to his role in an IED blast in Jammu’s Shastri Nagar in Feb 2022, besides twin blasts at Narwal on Jan 21, 2023, ahead of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s arrival for his Bharat Jodo Yatra,” police said.
In Rajouri terror hideout busting case, security forces launched a search operation in Azamatabad in Thannamandi on Sunday morning. “IEDs, 3 AK-47 magazines, and wireless sets were recovered from the hideout,” police said.
