American luxury designer brand Mac Duggal forays into India; eyes Rs 500 crore revenue in next 5 years – ET Retail

American luxury designer brand Mac Duggal has forayed into India, marking its entry in the 52nd country. The brand has laid down a strategy for its initial 5 years of operations in India and eyes to clock Rs 500 crore by the end of these five years, Manmohan Singh Duggal, founder & MD, Mac Duggal told ETRetail.

The brand has partnered with multi-brand retailers like Ogaan, Aza Fashions, and The White Crow to launch the brand in India and the products of the brand will also be available to its consumers through its website.

“I feel this is the right time to enter India. Earlier, we were looking for the right partners as it is a little bit complicated to bring a brand and retail it in India. Currently, we have partnered with MBOs which are positioned well in various tier I and tier II cities, apart from selling online,” he said.

“Apart from this, right now there’s a lot more awareness in India as a lot of information is coming across the globe more freely, and Indian consumers are ready to embrace it,” he further said.

The ready-to-wear couture brand is known for selling affordable luxury and it also bets big on size inclusivity by offering 0-30 sizes.

The brand, which started its journey in 1984 in Chicago, USA, has introduced 400 SKUs to begin with in cities like like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Calcutta, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Raipur.

“By the end of FY 2025, we aim to open our flagship stores. India is still a growing market for us and we do several hundred million dollars in sales overseas. So, I think it would be a smaller percentage here because we work in 52 countries,” he asserted.

Mac Duggal denied sharing the investment figures in India stating that it is a private company. Instead, he asserted, “We carry half a million pieces in inventory and half a million pieces in production at any given time.”

The brand, which enjoys mid-double digits EBITDA, earns 70 per cent of its revenue from its biggest market – the USA.

Globally, the brand has partnered with retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Anthropologie, and Galeries Lafayette to name a few.
