Villagers in Rajasthan set rape-murder accused’s house on fire | Jaipur News – Times of India



JAIPUR: People of Nandri village in Dausa district Thursday burnt down the house of a man who allegedly raped and murdered a six-month pregnant woman.
They also ransacked houses of the man’s relatives and hurled stones at police when they reached the spot. No one was present in the houses when these were attacked.
SP Ranjeeta Sharma said, “The situation is now under control.About 15 people, suspected to be involved in the attack, have been detained. Some sustained burn injuries and have been provided medical treatment.” Police have shifted the man’s family to a safer location.
Police said FIR was filed on April 28 after a youth from Nandri village complained against Jagram Meena. He accused Meena of taking his wife to a place on the pretext of collecting fodder, but did not return.

He searched for his wife but could not find her. Meena was not in his house and his phone was switched off. Police started a search following the FIR and found the woman’s mutilated body in a field on April 29.
Meena was arrested on May 1, police said. But tension continued on Friday, forcing family members of the accused to take their belongings and livestock to a safer place under police protection.
On Thursday night, the villagers had targeted a total of four houses, including that of the accused. While one house was set ablaze, the remaining ones were vandalised. However, all the occupants managed to escape before the attack.
Cops from the Manpur and Sikandra stations rushed to the scene to control the situation.
