YouTuber Savukku Shankar detained under Goondas Act | Chennai News – Times of India



CHENNAI: Youtuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar who is under judicial custody in Coimbatore central prison has been detained under the Goondas Act based on the orders of the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) Commissioner, Sandeep Rai Rathore.
Inspector, Cyber Crime wing, Central Crime Branch, Chennai served the detention order to Shankar at the Coimbatore prison.
An official release said that there are 7 cases against Shankar @ Savukku Shankar in the CCB/Cyber Crime PS of the GCP, out of which 3 cases are Under Investigation, charge sheets have been filed in 2 cases, the remaining two cases are Pending Trial.
The cases are registered in different districts – Theni, Trichy, Salem, Coimbatore, and Chennai. The complainants include a police sub inspector, inspector, and deputy superintendent, a journalist, and a politician. While four of the cases are based on statements he made in an interview, one of the First Information Reports (FIR) is based on a six-year-old complaint by a journalist.
Shankar was initially arrested in Theni for the alleged defamatory comments about women police personnel during the interview, and other cases were slapped on him subsequently.
