Prajwal Revanna set to return to India tonight: Latest developments | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of sexually abusing women, is set to return to India from Germany. Prajwal, facing charges of sexually abusing several women, had said in a video statement earlier this week that he would return on May 31 and appear before a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has said that the next course of action, such as cancellation of his passport, will follow if he fails to show up as promised.
Here are the latest developments:

  • According to reports, Revanna has boarded a flight from Munich to India which will arrive in India after midnight

  • The ministry of external affairs has said that the process of cancelling Revanna’s diplomatic passport has been initiated and a show cause notice was also issued to him. “MEA has initiated action under provisions in the Passport Act 1967 for revocation of the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna. A show cause notice was issued to the passport holder on 23rd May, giving him 10 working days to respond to our notice. We are waiting for a response and will take further action as per the rules,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
  • A day ago, Prajwal Revanna filed an anticipatory bail application in the sexual assault case at the Bengaluru sessions court.

The police are on alert ahead of Prajwal’s arrival and a team of SIT officials are camping at the airport. On the action ahead, Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara said if Prajwal arrives, he will be arrested and a legal process will be initiated. The immigration officials at the airport will detain him and hand him over to the SIT, as there is a lookout notice against him. If he does not arrive, the government will again press for cancelling his passport.
The 33-year-old Prajwal, who is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM HD Deve Gowda and is the NDA’s candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha segment, is facing charges of multiple instances of sexually abusing women.
The cases came to light after several explicit videos of sexual assault allegedly by Prajwal became public. A SIT is currently probing these cases.
Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hassan went to polls, and is still at large. Interpol has also issued a Blue Corner Notice seeking information on his whereabouts.
