NEW DELHI: Pralhad Joshi, a senior BJP leader, announced at the NDA parliamentary party meeting that Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on Sunday, June 9 at 6 pm. During the meeting, BJP president J P Nadda is expected to propose a resolution supporting Modi’s leadership, which will likely be endorsed by allies and MPs.Following Modi’s election as the leader of NDA MPs, senior alliance members such as N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Nitish Kumar (JD(U)), and Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena) will accompany the PM to meet President Droupadi Murmu and present the list of parliamentarians backing him.
The main dais featured prominent NDA leaders, including Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Anupriya Patel, and Pawan Kalyan, alongside senior BJP leaders. The NDA currently holds 293 seats in Lok Sabha, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member house.
Senior BJP leaders, such as Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nadda, have been engaging in discussions with allies to develop an agreeable formula for their representation in the new government, which will heavily rely on their support for its survival.
The BJP leadership has acted swiftly since the June 4 results to form the government and eliminate any uncertainty following the verdict, which was a setback for the ruling party as it lost its majority for the first time since 2014 and requires the support of allies to maintain its grip on power.
