Kaur allegedly slapped actor and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut. Farmer leaders called for a fair investigation into the incident to ensure Kulwinder Kaur receives just treatment.
Adequate security was deployed for the march, which started from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali. Speaking to reporters, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized the need for an impartial investigation.
Pandher highlighted the importance of determining the reasons behind the incident and stressed that there should be no injustice done to the woman constable. Farmer leaders also criticized Kangana for her allegedly provocative statements against the people of Punjab.
Kaur reportedly disagreed with Ranaut’s views on the farmers’ protests, which may have led to the altercation. The CISF, responsible for airport security, has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.
The Mohali Police have booked Kaur under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), both of which are bailable offenses.
In a video message on Thursday, Ranaut claimed she was hit in the face and verbally abused by the constable during a security check at Chandigarh airport. This incident occurred two days after she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
“I am safe but my concern is that terrorism and extremism are increasing in Punjab… How do we handle that?” Ranaut had stated.
Ranaut recounted that the constable approached her and assaulted her. “She hit me in the face and started abusing me. I asked her why she did it and she said she supports the farmer protests.”
The incident has further fueled tensions, with various farmer groups expressing their support for Kulwinder Kaur. They continue to demand a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter to uncover the full story.
