NEW DELHI: At least eight Naxalites were killed on Saturday in an encounter with the security forces in Chhattisgarh‘s Abujhmarh in the Narayanpur district.
In the exchange of fire, one soldier lost his life and two others were injured.
The encounter between security forces and Naxalites has been underway in the Maad and Narayanpur districts for the past two days.
Narayanpur-Kondagaon-Kanker-Dantewada DRG, STF and ITBP 53rd Battalion forces are involved in the joint operation.
The security forces have been carrying out tough measures against Naxalites in the “Red Corridors” and have reinforced their anti-Naxal operations.
Last month, the forces eliminated at least 12 Naxalites in forests of restive Bijapur district, even as the prolonged gun battle continued.
A team of security personnel were out on the search operation when an encounter broke out with Naxalites in the morning near Pidia village in the Gangaloor region.
The encounter went on for eleven hours till evening before the forces returned.
Later, Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai extended wishes to the security forces and officers engaged in the operation.
“Since the BJP has come to power in Chhattisgarh, action against Naxalites have increased and we are giving a strong fight to them. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union home minister Amit Shah ji also wish that Naxalism should end and people are getting the benefits of double-engine govt,” Sai said.
On April 16, security forces had gunned down 29 Naxalites in an encounter in Kanker district while ten Naxalites were killed in another encounter in the Abujhmarh region of the same Narayanpur district.
