DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand govt has submitted an application to recall and modify an order to eliminate a segment based on the suggested clauses of the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code (UCC) from an HC directive. This directive concerned the protection of an interfaith couple in a live-in relationship in Dehradun. A bench led by Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari will adjudicate the case on Monday, reports Pankul Sharma.
On Friday, the HC had ordered the couple to register under the UCC within 48 hours to receive protection.Govt counsel Amit Bhatt said his junior, who is also a govt advocate, was unaware that the UCC implementation is yet to be enforced in the state. Bhatt added that the recall application was submitted to request the exclusion of the UCC portion. “The advocate general has also been apprised of this matter,” he said.
The recall application clarified that after the Prez’s approval on March 12, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami mentioned the endorsement of UCC bill on social media on March 13.
