Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, celebrated for her hit songs and dance numbers, has joined India’s Best Dancer season 4 as a full-time judge, marking her debut in this role. In an exclusive interview with ETimes TV, Karisma shared her reasons for joining the show, the challenges she faces in selecting contestants, and her sister Kareena Kapoor‘s reaction to her new judging role.
Speaking about the reason behind judging India’s Best Dancer, “I was very happy to come as a guest judge on dancing shows haste hue dance karte hue shooting Karisma Kapoor special and go home. I loved that there was no extra responsibility, but now there is a responsibility and I’ve been on the show before as a guest on season 2-3. I had a great time and I really believed in the ethos and energy of the show, finally they convinced me to come on board.”
She further added, “There is a lot of responsibility now and judging contestants is not easy because they all are fantastic, I’m not saying because I’m one of the judges. I’m saying this because this generation they are so bang on and energetic in everything that they do. Be it dancing, their presentation or talking, they come really very prepared. To make that choice of best 12 is quite a tough decision.”
When asked about the difficulty of saying no to participants and navigating the selection process, especially since she is a mother in real life, she said, “I get very emotional, but I really have to stay focused and not let myself get distracted by other things. It’s challenging, but ultimately, we have to make decisions that are best for the show and choose the contestants who truly stand out. All three of us judges come together to make these decisions.”
Talking about sister Kareena Kapoor’s reaction to her judging IBD 4, she said, “Kareena asked me, “Are you ready Na? prepared ho Na? It is very tough, I was like yes I know but I like to do different things, try different concepts. This was the perfect time, I was ready to judge a show. On television Kareena has been a judge first. The most important thing I feel about both of us is that we talk straight from our heart. The most important thing is to be yourself and always speak the truth. That has been the belief of both of us as sisters throughout our careers. We stick to that in everything we do.”
