SRINAGAR: Four terrorist associates affiliated with the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit have been arrested along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday. Investigation has revealed that all of them had been working for Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh — a terrorist associate from Kunzer, Baramulla, who is presently in prison under the Public Safety Act — earlier.
During a checking drive at Naradhiri Dangerpora junction on October 30, a joint team of Baramulla Police, Army’s 52RR and CRPF’s 53Bn arrested two suspects — identified as Gh Hassan Mir and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, residents of Pinjwara Laridora Chandoosa — who tried to flee on spotting the security forces but were eventually caught.A Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, 12 live rounds and two grenades were seized from the duo, police said in a statement.
A case was registered in this connection under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Sheeri police station and a probe was launched. After further investigation based on the duo’s disclosure, two more terrorist associates — identified as Altaf Ahmad Rather and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb, both from Baramulla — were detained for questioning. They were arrested after sleuths recovered two hand grenades from their possession.
Further probe was underway, said the statement.
