When Ajit Samal (34) and P Bikash Rao (27) left their homes for Tatanagar on Monday, little did their families know that would be the last time they would see them alive. Early on Tuesday the two friends lost their lives when the 12810 Howrah-CSTM Mumbai derailed in Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand.
Residents of Malgodown and Railway Colony in Rourkela, the two used to work under a local contractor.
Ajit was sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife, two children and ailing parents. Bikash, son of an ex-railway employee, left behind his ailing mother, a heart patient, and elder brother P Bishal Rao. “I have not told mother about Bikash’s death. I fear she will die of shock,” Bishal said. “Ajit had called to ask about his son, who is not keeping well. Again, he called in the night. Today morning his friends informed his wife that he is no more. How will the family survive without him?” wondered Shantilata, his mother.
Sources said the train from Howrah to Mumbai was late by over three hours. The two boarded a 3AC compartment and stood near the door.
