NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka needed 30 runs off the last 30 balls with nine wickets in hand against India but they stuttered again as Suryakumar Yadav took the 3rd T20I at Pallekele into a Super Over on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka batted first in the Super Over with Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis – their top-scorers – walking out to bat.
Rinku Singh had bowled a superb penultimate over conceding just 3 runs and taking 2 wickets but India captain of the series Suryakumar Yadav chose Washington Sundar to bowl the Super Over.
Sundar had taken 2 wickets off his 4 overs conceding 23 runs in the match.
Sundar started the Super Over with a wide to Mendis and conceded a single off the next delivery.
Sundar bowled the second delivery a bit slower slightly short of length, Perera went back to pull and hit it straight to deep backward square leg where Ravi Bishnoi took the catch.
The new man in, Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for a first ball duck as Sundar bowled a full ball in the slot that Nissanka slog swept straight into the hands of Rinku at deep mid-wicket as Sri Lanka were all out for just 2 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav swept the first ball by Maheesh Theekshana to the fine leg fence as India won the Super Over and the T20I series 3-0.
The official broadcaster shared a clip of the Super Over on their official X handle.

Washington Sundar was adjudged the Man of the Match and Suryakumar Yadav was chosen the player of the series.
This was the fifth win in as many tied finishes for India in T20Is – four via Super Over and one via Bowl Out.
Each of the five tied finishes for India in T20Is came while defending a total and this is the third time that India whitewashed Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series after in 2017 and 2022.
This is the third loss for Sri Lanka in five Super Overs.
The ODI series between the two teams starts from Friday in Colombo.
