“With regards to the claims in various sections regarding the flag hoisting on August 15, it is clarified that the LG secretariat is not in receipt of any such communication whatsoever,” a Raj Niwas official told news agency PTI.
The Delhi government’s Independence Day function is traditionally held at Chhatrasal Stadium, where the chief minister addresses the gathering.
‘Make Atishi CM if you want her to hoist flag’
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, strongly condemned Kejriwal’s letter to the lieutenant governor, saying that it “proves” the AAP and its leaders are “anarchists” and will remain so. Sachdeva pointed out that according to the national flag protocol, only the chief minister is permitted to hoist the flag in the states.
“Perhaps, the framers of the Constitution and the national flag protocol never imagined that one day, there would be a stubborn chief minister who would not resign even after going to jail,” the BJP Delhi president said.
“If the chief minister is unable to hoist the flag, then traditionally, the lieutenant governor of Delhi will hoist the flag. From 1991 to 1993 and in 2014, when there was no chief minister in Delhi, the lieutenant governor hoisted the flag,” he added.
Sachdeva further said that if the Delhi CM wants Atishi to hoist the flag, he should trust her and resign, allowing her to take the oath as chief minister.
Kejriwal is currently in Tihar jail due to his involvement in a CBI case related to the alleged excise policy scam. The Supreme Court has granted him interim bail in the money laundering case linked to the excise policy, which is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate.
