GUWAHATI: A second-year MTech student of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G), allegedly died by suicide on Friday, reports Dhrubajyoti Malakar. The deceased Soumya Kumar (23), from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, was found dead in her room at the institute’s hostel.
“We received information from IIT-G authorities about the death around 10.45am. Soumya might have died by suicide on the previous night or on Friday morning.She was staying alone in her room,” north Guwahati police station OC Ratul Kumar Das said.
“The exact reason behind the extreme step is not known yet. Her classmates and hostel mates are being questioned to understand the reason. There is no suspicion of any foul play as of now,” Das said.
