TMC fires ex-MP Shantanu as Kolkata civic body adviser | India News – Times of India

KOLKATA: The Bengal govt removed former Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen from the post of adviser to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Saturday, two days after he was removed as TMC spokesperson.
It is believed that Sen’s stance on the rape-murder at R G Kar hospital has cost him his post in KMC. Just before the vandalism on the intervening night of August 14-15, Sen had talked about the “systemic rot” at RG Kar.
“Whatever he has said is contrary to our party stand. This has created a rift, maybe for the time being, that has compelled the civic brass to relieve him of his duty,” said an official. Sen’s wife Kakali, a TMC councillor, has also been removed from a councillors’ WhatsApp group.
On Saturday, it was found that Sen’s name plate had been removed from his chamber at councillors’ club. Mayor Firhad Hakim said: “We have only one health advisor (T K Mukherjee). I am not aware of Sen’s position in the KMC as an advisor.” “I have not received any communication from KMC officially. I still regard mayor Hakim as my elder brother and a senior neta,” said Sen.
