Reliance Jio has a ‘cyber fraud’ warning for its customers: What it is and how to stay safe – Times of India



Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio has issued a warning for its customers. The telecom service provider has issued a warning about scammers’ tactics and how they target unsuspecting users for cyber fraud.
“For us at Jio, your security is always of utmost importance. Recently, we have observed cases of cyber fraud where scammers pose as representatives of your service providers, and seek sensitive information,” said the company in a message.
The service provider has also shared the details about how the scammers fraud users along with the tips to stay safe.
How the scam works

  • Scammers can reach out to you in various ways, including phone calls, SMS messages, WhatsApp chats, or emails.
  • Scammers often ask for sensitive information like your PAN card number, Aadhaar details, bank account information, credit card details, OTPs, or SIM number.
  • Scammers may create a sense of urgency by threatening to cut off your services if you don’t comply with their demands.
  • Scammers may ask you to download and install third-party apps that can give them access to your phone or computer and your personal information.

Important: Reliance Jio will never ask you to download third-party apps. If you receive a request like this, it’s likely a scam.
“Any communication sent by Jio through SMS, call or email will never ask you to click on unknown links which open outside Jio.com or MyJio app. In case of any doubt, we recommend you to log in to the MyJio app and search for relevant information,” added the company.
Tips to stay safe from online fraud

  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments, and never respond to unsolicited emails, messages, or calls asking for your personal information
  • Scammers can use apps that provide remote access to your phone to steal your personal information. Don’t download these apps.
  • Don’t share your 20-digit SIM number with anyone. This information is printed on the back of your SIM card.
  • Create unique passwords and PINs for your apps and online accounts, and change them regularly to protect your information.
  • Regularly check your bank and card statements for any unusual activity. Report any suspicious transactions to your bank immediately.
  • Keep your device software up-to-date and avoid sharing it with strangers. This will help protect your information from unauthorised access.
