NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that crimes against women were “unpardonable” and negligence at any level should be “taken to task”. This came in the light of country witnessing widespread protests after rape and murder of a doctor at a Kolkata hospital and sexual assault of two kindergarten girls in Badlapur.
“I would like to reiterate to every political party and every state govt that crimes against women are unpardonable. The guilty should not be spared, no matter who he is. People helping him should not be spared either,” he said addressing the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
“Negligence at any level be it hospital, school, office or policy system should be taken to task,” he added.
PM Modi also assured that the central government stood with the state governments to deal with atrocities against women.
“I assure you, the central government is with the state governments in every way to stop atrocities against women. We will have to stop only after eradicating this mentality from Indian society,” he said.
“Our government is also continuously making laws stricter to give the harshest punishment to those who commit atrocities on women. Today, such a large number of sisters and daughters of the country are here,” he added.
‘Women victims can register e-FIRs from home’
Highlighting the new provisions in the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, PM Modi said that there were provisions for the victim women to register an e-FIR from home.
“Earlier there used to be complaints that FIRs were not registered on time, there was no hearing, cases were delayed,” he said.
“A whole chapter has been created in it (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) regarding atrocities against women and children. If the victim women do not want to go to the police station, then they can register an e-FIR from home. We have also ensured that no one will be able to tamper with the e-FIR at the police station level,” he added.
