NEW DELHI: Veteran actor Rajinikanth‘s “old student” remark for the senior DMK leaders has miffed a few in the party as one of the ministers took a vitriolic dig at the superstar, saying that old actors “continue to act even after growing beards and loosing teeth”.
On Saturday, during a book launch event Rajinikanth had praised Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin for “managing” senior DMK leaders while stating that old students “won’t leave the class” (to pave way for the new leaders).
“One thing amazes me. Handling new students in the school won’t be an issue but it is not a simple thing to manage old students (senior leaders). Here (in DMK) we have many old students. That too not normal students. All are extraordinary old students,” Rajinikanth said during the launch event of book on ex-CM M Karunanidhi, who also happens to be CM Stalin’s father.
Rajnikanth further said: “All these old students are rank holders and saying they won’t leave the class… Especially we have Durai Murugan…We can’t say anything. Stalin sir, hats off to you for handling everything.”
Reacting to Rajinikanth’s remark, Durai Murugan said: “In a similar situation, even we can say young artists are losing opportunities because of old actors who continue to act, even after growing beards and losing teeth.”
As the actor’s statement picked up heat in the party, Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is MK Stalin’s son, said youth are ready to join their party.
“Youths are ready and willing to come to our side. We only have to give space to them and hold their hands to guide them. Superstar Rajinikanth’s speech got huge applause. You all would have seen that speech,” Stalin junior was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Later, Rajinikanth spoke with the media and said that his friendship with Murugan will always continue and whatever he says is not an issue.
“Durai Murugan is my long-time friend. Whatever he says is not an issue, our friendship will always continue,” said Rajinikanth, according to ANI.
DMK Minister Murugan also said dismissed any tension between him and the actor saying, “one one should use our jokes as enmity”.
“I am also saying the same thing what Rajinikanth have said. No one should use our jokes as enmity. We always be friends like how we used to be,” Murugan said.
